Californians may get the chance to vote on whether to split their state into six new states in 2016, if a Silicon Valley businessman gets his way.

The “Six Californias” campaign, funded by venture capitalist Tim Draper, got a step closer to securing a spot on the 2016 ballot on Tuesday. The group said in a statement that it had gathered the necessary number of signatures to qualify the measure for the 2016 election.
